Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 16, 2025.

Piano Lab (“we,” “us,” “our”) provides piano lessons and related services to families. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through our website and forms, emails and texts, lesson activities (including intro-lesson recordings), Seesaw, and our social media and advertising. Examples in this policy are illustrative and not exhaustive.

1. Scope
This policy applies to personal information we collect from parents or guardians and their children in connection with inquiries, enrollment, lessons, communications, operations, and marketing, as well as other interactions you may have with us online or offline.

2. Information We Collect
We collect information a parent or guardian provides, including, without limitation, name, email, phone number, address, communication preferences, and any details shared in free-text fields; student information such as first name, age or grade, learning goals, scheduling preferences, teacher notes, progress tracking, and lesson or intro-lesson recordings; operational and classroom information such as attendance, practice logs, assessments, and similar records; device and usage data such as IP address, identifiers, pages viewed, time on page, and cookie or pixel data; and communications you send us by email, text, forms, or phone. If you enroll, we receive scheduling and payment details from our providers and maintain associated records; we do not store full card numbers. We may also create derived data, de-identified data, or aggregated data from the information we collect for our lawful business purposes.

3. Sources
We obtain information directly from you and, as applicable, from your child’s participation; automatically through our website, apps, and advertising tools; from service providers we use for portfolios, scheduling, communications, analytics, payments, hosting, and security (including Seesaw); and, where permitted by law, from publicly available sources, referrals, and other partners who help us operate our services.

4. How We Use Information
We use personal information to provide and support lessons, including, without limitation, scheduling, billing, customer service, progress tracking, classroom management, and family updates; to share lesson updates privately with parents through Seesaw; to operate, maintain, protect, and improve our website, facilities, and services; for safety, integrity, fraud prevention, and compliance; for internal training, quality assurance, research, and analytics; to communicate about openings, events, and offers where you opt in; and for other purposes disclosed at the time of collection or that are reasonably necessary to achieve those purposes. We may de-identify or aggregate information and use it for any lawful purpose.

5. Children’s Privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 online. A parent or guardian must provide all student information. Photos, videos, and audio of a child are personal information; parental consent is required before online collection, use, or disclosure. Parents can review or delete their child’s information by emailing info@pianolabmn.com, subject to verification and applicable law.

6. Seesaw
We use Seesaw to share activities and short clips privately with families. Student journals are private by default and visible to the teacher, your child, and invited family members; links are not public or searchable unless deliberately shared. Seesaw processes information under its own terms and privacy policy. You can ask us to remove items from Seesaw or disconnect access at any time by emailing info@pianolabmn.com.

7. Photo, Video, and Audio (Media)
We may record short clips during lessons or intro lessons for educational feedback and to share privately with a parent or guardian, including in Seesaw. For any public use—website, social media, print, ads, and similar channels—we only use a child’s image, voice, or work with a parent or guardian’s explicit media consent. For children under 13, we obtain verifiable parental consent before any online collection, use, or disclosure of photos, videos, or audio. Parents can revoke media consent at any time by emailing info@pianolabmn.com, and we will stop future use and remove existing posts where feasible or rotate the content.

8. Cookies, Pixels, and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies, including analytics and advertising pixels such as Meta Pixel and Google Analytics, to understand interest in lessons, measure performance, and reach families likely to be interested in our services. You can control cookies through your browser settings or, when shown, through our site’s cookie settings. You can also email info@pianolabmn.com with the subject “Opt-Out” to opt out of targeted advertising or sale/sharing categories associated with your information. We honor recognized Global Privacy Control and other universal opt-out signals where applicable.

9. Marketing Emails and Texts
If you opt in, we may send marketing emails; you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails. If you opt in to texts, we may text about lessons, scheduling, and offers. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help. Consent is not required to enroll.

10. Sharing
We do not sell personal information for money. We share personal information with service providers and partners who support our operations under appropriate contracts, including, without limitation, providers of email and SMS platforms, scheduling and payment processing, Seesaw and other educational tools, hosting, analytics, advertising and measurement, security, customer support, and similar services. We may share information with professional advisors, auditors, insurers, regulators, and, in connection with a corporate transaction, with prospective or actual acquirers or successors, consistent with this policy. We may disclose information to comply with law, legal process, or government requests, to enforce our terms and policies, or to protect rights, safety, and property. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services that we do not control.

11. Data Retention
We generally retain personal information for as long as we have a legitimate business need and as permitted by law, including, without limitation, for records, operations, training, analytics, safety, fraud prevention, tax, and accounting. For known children under 13, we limit retention to what is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which the information was collected, and we will delete upon a verifiable parental request or where otherwise required by law. Outside of those requirements, we may keep certain records, archives, logs, and back-ups for longer periods consistent with our business needs and legal obligations; when deletion is required or requested and permitted, we may de-identify or archive data where allowed and delete active copies within a reasonable time, while limited copies may persist in back-ups for a finite period.

12. Security
We use appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident that legally requires notice, we will notify affected individuals consistent with applicable law.

13. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information and to opt out of targeted advertising or the sale or sharing of personal information. To make a request, email info@pianolabmn.com with the subject “Privacy Request” or “Opt-Out.” We will verify your request and respond within applicable timeframes; if we decline, you may appeal by replying “Appeal.” We honor recognized universal opt-out signals, such as Global Privacy Control, where applicable.

14. International Use
Our services are controlled and operated from the United States. If you access our services from outside the United States, you understand that information may be processed in and subject to the laws of the United States, which may differ from those in your country.

15. Changes
